MIGRANT JUSTICE CLINIC
Legal and psychosocial representation and support
Legal representation and support
The CJM's legal representation and support is a second-line resource: migrants with precarious status who need legal representation can be referred there by community and institutional workers.
Favoring a holistic and multidisciplinary approach, we represent and support migrants with precarious status, from arrival in Canada to removal procedures.
Priority is given to cases involving people who are not represented (or who are not adequately represented) and whose situation is complicated by their migratory background or particular vulnerability factors.
Legal representation services are covered by legal aid or are offered at affordable costs.
Psychosocial support
The CJM lawyers team up with psychosocial workers to recommend a holistic approach that takes into account the overall situation of the people represented.
Our psychosocials workers can help users of our services with different needs, including:
- Support in the process of accessing healthcare, employment, financial situation, integration, etc.
- Psychosocial support related to distress and difficulties related to life paths and immigration status.
- Referral to existing complementary resources, following an assessment of needs and with the agreement of the individuals.
The worker works jointly with the lawyer involved in the case to increase the effectiveness of the support. In addition, depending on the requests and needs of the individuals, and with their authorization, the worker is authorized to collaborate with other workers to provide more comprehensive support to the person experiencing difficulties (community and psychosocial workers, health professionals, etc.)
It is with a humanistic, sensitive, inclusive and needs-adapted approach that the speaker offers psychosocial support.
Collaborations
Lawyers collaborate with notaries and lawyers competent in other areas of law when the people they represent are faced with other legal issues (criminal law, family law, etc.).
In addition, the CJM is proud to contribute to the training of the next generation in refugee and immigration law by welcoming law interns from several Quebec universities and is grateful for their essential and enriching contribution to its mission!
